Procedure
ERCP
ERCP—Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography—combines upper GI Endoscopy and X-ray imaging to evaluate and, importantly, treat selected problems involving the bile and pancreatic ducts.
ERCP is available at Triveni as a gastroenterology procedure.
Why may ERCP be advised?
ERCP may be used when a bile or pancreatic duct is narrowed, obstructed or leaking, including selected situations involving duct stones, obstruction or pancreatitis-related duct problems. Modern practice commonly uses less invasive imaging for diagnosis alone when treatment during ERCP is not expected.
Related Triveni clinical context
Dr. Sarvjeet's clinical areas include:
- obstructive jaundice - chronic pancreatitis - gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders
Obstructive jaundice or pancreatitis does not automatically mean that ERCP is required; the appropriate procedure depends on clinical assessment.
Preparation
General ERCP preparation includes review of medical history, allergies and medicines, fasting before the procedure and post-sedation transport planning. Medicines should not be stopped or altered without specific medical advice.
Exact Triveni instructions remain procedure-specific and will be communicated when arranging the service.
FAQ
Is ERCP just a diagnostic test?
ERCP is particularly useful when treatment of a bile or pancreatic duct problem may be required during the procedure; less invasive tests can often be used for diagnosis alone.
Does every patient with obstructive jaundice need ERCP?
No. The appropriate investigation or procedure depends on the cause and clinical assessment.
Can I enquire about ERCP directly?
Yes, direct enquiry is supported, although records, referral information and specialist review may still be needed.
